Origin of the name Michael 

The name Michael originally comes from Hebrew - "Mikha-el" meaning: "Who is like God?". It is also said that "Michael" means "one who represents God's conquest". 
In the legendary Quinlan Scrolls, Michael is also known as "Prince of Light".

In both Christianity and Judaism, Michael is revered as one of the Four Great Angels. Also at the top of the angelic hierarchy are Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel.  
Many pictures depict St. Michael as a knight who defeats a dragon with a sword, and sometimes Satan. 
Many times, Michael is depicted holding a spear in his right hand as a symbol of struggle. Michael's left hand holds a visionary mirror. There are also Saint Michael icons depicting him holding a flaming sword and wearing a bright red cloak as a symbol of victory. 

The legend of St. Michael 

It is believed that Saint Michael is the supreme and closest angel to God, and it is Michael who unites all the archangels against Lucifer. This is why the icon of St. Michael is particularly respected among the military who regard St. Michael as their patron saint. 

Archangel Michael is known in the Book of Revelation as the mighty angel who threw Satan from heaven to earth. Believers in Judaism and Christianity believe that even after death, St. Michael fights evil demons for every soul. To them, he was the messenger of God and a strong hero who fought against everyone's evil. 

September 29 is also known as "Michael Day" until this day.
